Good wins where it gets a helping hand

At the NLB Group, we believe that the key challenges we face in society can only be addressed together. To achieve this, we must first create the social conditions in which everyone can develop their potential.

In the last season of the Frame of Help project, we were looking especially for innovative companies and projects that improve and enrich our society and tackle challenges such as the overuse of digital technologies among youth, peer violence, human rights violations, gender equality, poverty, as well as the challenges posed by dementia and other diseases of an ageing society.

In today’s environment, challenging for society and economy, the importance of the social component of sustainability is often forgotten. But it is equally important, because both the environmental and the social aspects work intensively together, and are both cause and effect of each other.

Meet the winning team

The first place went to the Slovenian team that developed the Krožnik app. It connects consumers with restaurants, cafés, bakeries and other catering establishments that have surplus food at the end of the day. Surplus food is often perfectly edible, but can go unsold and be thrown away, which contributed to the global problem of food waste. The app shows lists of available surplus food from companies in the vicinity at prices up to 50% off, making it easier for the socially disadvantaged to access food.

Meet the runner-up

The second place went to Inclusio, a company from Serbia that developed an app to help people with special needs. The app has two components, one for people with disabilities and one for employees of the service provider. When a disabled person enters the premises, the app notifies the service provider and their staff already know what assistance their customer needs. The app is already in use in more than 250 locations in Serbia and there are plans to expand to regional and EU markets.

Meet the third-ranked

The third place went to Alicorn, a Montenegrin digital agency, with its Zuno Games solution. It is an app for teachers and students. The platform uses the power of games to motivate students and encourage them to learn actively through fun. The platform improves the quality of education in local communities and provides access to quality education even in rural areas where it is often not available. Also available is a version adapted for the visually impaired, allowing them to learn like their peers.
